Australia’s Timber Products Specialist

Western Red Cedar  –  Traditional T&G Panelling

Profiles, Sizes & Grade

Designed to meet the requirements of both residential and commercial applications, Western Red Cedar panelling produced by TIMBECK provides thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as maintaining a beautiful, distinctive appearance. The special characteristics of Western Red Cedar make it particularly suited to internal panelling. The timber’s excellent insulation properties will increase a building’s energy rating. Cedar is resistant to termites, has a very low shrinkage factor, and has excellent finishing properties. TIMBECK architectural is recognised as Australia’s largest importer and processor of Western Red Cedar products. We have been specialising in the manufacture of Panelling and Mouldings for over 3 decades.

Grade

TIMBECK machine profiled tongue and groove panelling is manufactured from selected Western Red Cedar stock and graded to Select Appearance Grade.

SELECT APPEARANCE is graded according to the particular product and for mainstream items like panelling, it requires material to be free of all knots, defects and similar blemishes on the primary face.

Traces of the dis-allowed characteristics may appear on the back face.

This grade is suitable for a more formal, elegant appearance, particularly when boards are finished with a dressed face.

Tongue and Groove Detail

All TIMBECK Western Red Cedar panelling profiles share a common Tongue and Groove detail relative to the thickness of the finished product.

4422.01
  • 9 mm thick profiles have a 3 mm wide groove
  • 12 mm thick profiles have a 4 mm wide groove.
  • All Tongues extend 3 mm irrespective of the thickness of the board
  • Being profiles developed to cater for concealed fixing AND face fixing, one edge of the groove is offset by 3 mm to provide sufficient face overlap to conceal the head of the fixing should the concealed fixing option be chosen.

Profile Options

The standard range of TIMBECK Panelling profiles comprises four basic profiles – Shiplap, Vee Joint and Regency in 9mm and a rounded edge profile in 12 mm. The rounded edge option is designed to specifically meet the requirements of the Sauna industry, but it can equally suit any other application where that look is appropriate. Collectively, these four profiles form the basis of our normal stock holding for this Traditional T & G part of our panelling range.

Beyond our standard range of stock profiles, customised detailing can readily be accommodated, and this flexibility allows TIMBECK to truly offer designers an opportunity to tailor design their panelling to suit their buildings.

Standard stock profiles, their Western Red Cedar product codes and main dimensional details are set out below.
